Holiday Stashdown Challenge

For me this challenge isn't really about the stash, it's more about planning, preparedness and taking advantage of the prompts each week from Marie at Underground Crafter.  As a procrastinator by nature I suffer terribly from my inability to work on what I should be doing instead of whatever has caught my eye that moment.  What gets me is that I really do want to make gifts for my family and friends. Yet for some reason whenever I have a deadline I always wait and wait and wait.  And then I scramble, say lots of bad words and stay up way too late.  I'm working on changing.  That I actually went through my meager stash giving thought to what could be made from each remaining bit is progress, right?!

What did I learn this week?

• I have a good amount of #10 cotton thread in basic colors.  Thread is good.  During the hot summer months I  prefer working on lace projects to afghans.
• I was pleasantly surprised to find the purple LB Chenille. The motif scarf I originally made with it was fun and funky.
• Below is my very favorite wrap (from the Noro) and even though I don't have enough for another I'm sure I can find something special.

• I'm almost done with my cardigan and I anticipate that I'll have these 2 skeins of Caron Naturals Spa left.  Plenty for something I'm sure!
• I'm not sure how it happened but I have a rather large selection of LB Homespun. Don't know what I'll do with it.  It does make nice warm hats...
• It seems that I have many little balls of Red Heart Super Saver in a plethora of colors. Can you say Granny Squares?

To be honest until recently I've been hesitant to spend a lot of money on yarn.  As a beginner I just couldn't see shelling out the big bucks and ending up with an ill fitting sweater that lives in the wardrobe! But I'm more confident in my abilities and that means that I'm starting to suffer from yarn envy!  When I visit your blogs and see all of the beautiful hand dyed and spun yarns you're using I know that it's time to take the plunge! What does that mean for my holiday projects? Probably that I'll be spending more money.  The benefits? I'll get to work with some beautiful new yarns and just  think about what my stash will look like next year!!
